What this covers
Key fob programming is for a fob that exists but that the car will not accept. It might be a replacement you bought, a spare that was never set up, or a fob that stopped locking and unlocking the doors after a battery change or a repair. Programming pairs the fob with the car so its buttons work and so the car recognizes it when you start the engine.
How we approach it
We check the fob before anything else: that it is the right type for the car, that the battery and the case are in good shape, and whether it carries a key blade that needs cutting. Then we program it to the car where it is parked and test every function: the lock and unlock buttons, the trunk button where there is one, and starting the engine.
Where it stops
Not every fob can be programmed to every car. A used fob may already be tied to another vehicle, and some fobs sold online are the wrong model even when they look identical. If a fob cannot be paired, we tell you before any work is done. Programming covers the fob and its blade; faults in the car's wiring or its security electronics are outside this work.

Worth knowing
Before you buy a fob online, check the part number printed inside your current fob or in the owner's manual, and have the car's year, make and model ready. A fob that matches in shape and button layout can still use a different frequency or chip. Asking before you buy spares you a fob that will never work with your car.
A fob that stops responding is not always a programming problem. A weak battery, a worn button or a cracked case can look exactly like a fob that has lost its pairing. We rule those out first, because a new battery is a very different job from programming, and there is no reason to program a fob that only needed a battery.
Bring every fob and key you have for the car. Some cars store their keys as a group, and programming one fob can mean setting up the others as well. That way, when the work is finished, you know each one works, and you are not left with a spare in a drawer that the car no longer recognizes.
